Trailer Termanology

A movie trailer is a short video (up to 2 minutes 30 seconds) produced to entise the audience into wanting to go and see/purchase a film.

Plot Summary : This is the basic ''three act structure'' depicted in a movie trailer. The three acts are the beginning of the story (act 1), the middle that drives the story further (act 2) and usually ends with a dramatic climax, and lastly (act 3) usually features a strong piece of ''signature music''. Act 3 is usually presented with a number of powerful or emotional moments in the film.

Voice over : This is the narratation that sets up the scenes of the trailer. This is useful to help the audience understand the plot.

Music : Music helps set the tone/mood for the trailer. This music may be from another movie, popular or well known music, library music previously composed specifically to be used in advertising by an independent composer, specially composed music or songs which may include knock offs (that are expensive to liscence) of recognisable songs.

Cast Crew and Studio Information : The cast run is the list of actors that appear throughout the movie. If the director/producer is well known or has made other popular movies, this works in the films favour as it may convince people to go and see it. Most trailers conclude with a billing block which is a list of the principal cast and crew.

A2 Coursework Breif

For my A2 Media course I will be producing a film trailer, and looking at different aspects of things to do with filming, such as lighting and sound. I will also be making a magazine front cover and a film poster to advertise my film. I will be using this blog to show my research and planning as well as posting my mock ups and final drafts of my work.
